Music and Worship

Responsive Worship

Worship is an extension of our heart, and it permeates our entire life – it is not merely music & singing, but the very attitudes and actions that we exhibit toward God throughout each day.  At Living Faith, our desire is to express God’s worthiness in all that we think and do!

In Psalm 95, we read how God’s people worshiped Him in a “responsive” manner.

“O come, let us sing for joy to the Lord, let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation.  Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.  For the Lord is a great God and a King above all gods…Come let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.  For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand.”  (vv.1-3, 6&7)

Their response was based on who God was, all that He had done in their midst, and the position in which they stood before Him - as His chosen people.  In addition, their worship was filled with joy, thankfulness, and reverence.

In John 4, we also see the need for balance in our worship…”spirit” and “truth”.

“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”  (v. 24)

“Spirit” describes everything within us…all of our heart, soul, mind and strength!  “Truth” defines the scriptural basis by which we gauge this.  The truth of God’s word not only motivates us to worship Him, but gives us the proper view and understanding to do so.

It is important to understand that our worship must be accurately based on the truth of who God is (through His word), and must be equally exhaustive of our very heart, soul mind and strength!  If either of these are lacking, we are out of balance in our worship.  We must learn to give Him everything!
